In one line — Super Zylon Carbon PBO (SZC) is a dense weave of PBO Zylon fibre and carbon, comparable to what other brands call Super ZLC, chosen for the widest sweet spot and least energy loss across the blade face of anything Loki builds.
Material physics

Minimising energy loss across the whole face

PBO (poly-p-phenylenebenzobisoxazole), branded as Zylon, has higher tensile strength than carbon or aramid and a distinctive spring-like recovery under load: it flexes further and snaps back harder, rather than simply resisting deformation the way a stiffer fibre does. In a Super Zylon Carbon PBO layup, that density is pushed further than standard Zylon Carbon, aiming to keep the blade’s energy return close to identical whether the ball is struck dead centre or near the wings.

That is the practical meaning of a ‘wide sweet spot’: on a lower-restitution blade, an off-centre hit measurably loses pace and spin. On the W81 Wei Shihao SZC, Loki’s own manufacturer figures put Speed at 14.6 on the 1–15 scale — the single highest Speed rating published across the whole blade range, current wood-only and composite blades included.

Got questions?

Common questions

Is the W81 Wei Shihao SZC too fast for club players?

At 14.6 Speed and 11.4 Control on Loki’s manufacturer scale it is the most power-oriented blade in the current range, best suited to advanced or top-level players with a full, committed swing. A club player developing technique will usually get more from a lower-speed, higher-control blade like the standard ADC or ARC builds.

What is the difference between SZC and standard ZC?

Same PBO Zylon and carbon fibre family, denser weave on SZC. Loki’s own figures show it: the SZC rates 14.6 Speed / 11.4 Control against the ZC’s 14.1 Speed / 11.6 Control — SZC is faster and marginally less forgiving.

Is the W81 Wei Shihao SZC legal for Table Tennis England and ITTF events?

Yes. It keeps 5 full wood plies either side of the 2 thin composite plies, meeting the ITTF construction rule for legal blades.
